"I believe that I should help people explode the myths surrounding photography and to show them what can be done. There are a lot of misconceptions about digital effects and adjustments so I try to show clients how sympathetic manipulation can enhance an image. I believe in working with my clients to help and guide them when necessary and to follow their guidelines to produce images to any specification. This could be anything from pictures for print or advertising to a beautiful, unique piece of art for their home."
After graduating from the University of Surrey with a 2:1 honours degree in Engineering with Industrial Management Ian travelled for a year throughout America and Australia before returning to England in 1992. After several years working as a consultant engineer Ian decided on a change of career and began training as a photographer before becoming fully self employed in 1997. Business grew quickly from word of mouth recommendations and Ian has become well known for his candid B&W portraits especially of nursery-school children.
After winning awards for portraiture Ian became a full member of the British Institute of Professional Photography in 1999 as business continued to grow. By offering black & white schools photographs he demonstrated an ability to produce that 'something different' to a wide range of people. This led to further private and commercial commissions which have helped expand his business.
Ian's personal achievements include several awards for his photographs including national awards from Fuji and the British Institute of Professional Photography. He also holds the Guinness World Record for the wakeboard marathon, has twice completed the London to Brighton bike ride and has completed the Three Peaks Challenge (climbing the highest mountains in Scotland, England and Wales) in less than 24 hours.
